Rector Profile - Rev Paddy Allen
Paddy had recently retired so this article will be updated shortly.
Our Rector is the Rev Paddy Allen, who lives with her husband, Bruce, in the Rectory in Crieff. They have one son who lives in London . Paddy was born and brought up on a farm in Zimbabwe, in the days when it was still Rhodesia. When she and Bruce were married they lived in little district towns where Paddy served as a nurse, in situations with few doctors and minimal equipment, where ingenuity and the support of the wonderful medical orderlies enabled help to be given to a wide range of people during those years of the bush war. After the birth of their son she qualified as a teacher, specialising in English and Latin. After their move to South Africa, she taught first in an all-boys' township school in Cape Town in those extraordinary years of transition from the Apartheid government to the new order, and then later in a girls' private school. During this time she began her ordination training, and served as School Chaplain, first lay then ordained. She was made Deacon in Cape Town, then priested in Dunbar after their move to Scotland. She served in St Anne's Dunbar as part time priest for just over ten years, spending the rest of her time as Chaplain with the NHS in Edinburgh. She has been Rector in Strathearn since November 2008.
Being Christian is rather like being one of those deacons serving in the kitchen at the wedding of Cana – privileged to be with Christ and to see his work, and gifted with the opportunity to take that miraculous wine out into the party to be shared with everyone whether they understand fully where it has come from or not.
